Family and early roles

Hathaway’s family moved from Brooklyn, New York, to Millburn, a New Jersey suburb, when she was six. Her father, Gerald, was a lawyer, and her mother, Kate McCauley, was a stage actress. When she was young, Hathaway toured with her mother during a production of the musical Les Misérables, which spurred her to pursue a career in theater. She studied with New York’s prestigious Barrow Group, and at age 16 she landed her first television role, on the family drama Get Real (1999–2000).

Personal Life and Husband

Hathaway married actor and jewelry designer Adam Shulman on September 29, 2012. The couple had been dating for four years at the time. Hathaway gave birth to their son Jonathan Rosebanks Shulman on March 24, 2016, in Los Angeles. The couple welcomed their second son, Jack, in late 2019.

Prior to Shulman, Hathaway dated Italian real estate developer Raffaello Follieri in 2004. The couple split in June 2008, after law officials accused Follieri of swindling investors out of millions and falsely claiming that the Vatican appointed him to manage its financial affairs.
