Kenneth Nicholas Petty (born April 7, 1978) is best known as the husband of Nicki Minaj.

Early life

Perry was born in Queens, New York on April 7, 1978. He grew up in the South Jamaica neighborhood. Petty attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School, before dropping out.

Career

Petty appears in the music video for "Megatron", Minaj's 2019 standalone single. The music video officially premiered on Minaj's YouTube channel on June 21, 2019.

Petty appears in the music video for "Hot Girl Summer", Minaj's 2019 collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion. The music video was released on September 3, 2019.

Petty is featured on the cover of Minaj's 2020 promotional single "Yikes", in a Ferrari 488 with Minaj waving to photographer Amanda Barona. Petty is also known by the alias Avery Johnson.

Petty was convicted of manslaughter in March 2006, after he pleaded guilty to the shooting of Lamont Robinson on April 27, 2002. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, and served seven years. He was released in May 2013.Petty was arrested for driving with a suspended license on September 13, 2018. He pleaded guilty on March 15, 2019.

Petty was arrested in Beverly Hills, California on November 15, 2019, after authorities learned that he had failed to disclose his sex offender status after moving from New York to California. He was later released on US$20,000 bail. He was sentenced to three years probation and a year of in-home detention on July 6, 2022. On March 4, 2020, he was entered into the California Megan's Law database.

Legal issues

Petty was convicted of attempted first-degree rape of a 16-year-old and first-degree manslaughter. On August 13, 2021, Jennifer Hough filed a lawsuit against Petty and Minaj alleging that the couple attempted to threaten her into recanting her accusations of sexual assault (witness intimidation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, harassment, assault, battery, sexual assault, and sexual harassment). On January 12, 2022, Hough dropped the harassment lawsuit she had filed against Minaj, although the case against Petty is still ongoing.

Controversy

Petty and Minaj were involved in a verbal altercation with rapper Meek Mill while shopping in Maxfield on January 25, 2020, before Mill was escorted out of the store.

Personal life

Petty began dating his childhood friend, the Trinidadian rapper Nicki Minaj, in December 2018, and after less than a year of dating, filed for a marriage license in August 2019. Minaj announced that they had officially married on October 21. The two had previously dated as teenagers. On July 20, 2020, Minaj announced via Instagram that she was expecting their first child. Minaj gave birth to their son on September 30. Their son is referred to publicly as "Papa Bear". His real name remains unknown.
